ASAP Sheep Skins
Our company sources, Australia wide, however we primarily source our sheepskins from Western Victoria “the merino capital of Australia” and the Goulburn region in New South Wales. We believe these areas source the purest merino sheep and ensure we provide an excellent standard.
Sheepskins are processed all year round, however historically sheep livestock availability is greater from October through to February, and the quality of the sheepskin is of a better standard.
Grading/Classing
Skins are graded (classed) on fumigated export pallets ready for shipment. They are packed according to wool length, quality and size. The classing process is determined by assessing the wool quality which includes wool counts and density, and an examination of the pelt looking for any faults. The final process is evaluating the wool length and the size of the skin.
We currently grade our skins into an 80/20 selection, a 3rd grade line and pieces.
Pelt size
Sheep and lambskins vary significantly in size. Our company policy is to target heavy sheep (above 21kg) as we understand the demand for “JUMBO” skins is significant to produce a greater yield to the client.
